Where does it hurt?
FOREWORD TO THE PROJECT ARCHEOLOGY OF THE BODY
The body always exists in a certain space, is numbered, the layers of the tissue are examined
under the microscope. Existence itself is embodied, in a sense. The Foucauldian notion
of questioning at the doctor’s office follows. “What is the matter with you?” changes
to “Where does it hurt?” The second questioning leads to even deeper examination driven
by the epistemological desire, that is being saturated by even further bodily examinations
that Foucault is critical of. In this installation, I explore my own bodily experience, particularly
the effects of anemia, using blood test results as a framework for further experimentation.
Language becomes the medium through which the material of the body is interrogated and reimagined.
